Welcome to Purrolux at Albion Mill

Purrolux are a traditional family run manufacturer of quality beds and mattresses. Bed suppliers to many well known hotels, caravan and boat manufacturers and residential homes.

We also specialise in manufacturing beds in any shape or size, our luxurious round bed is truly a sight to behold.

Purrolux began manufacturing beds over 40 years ago in a small workshop in Prestwich, North Manchester.

In the early years our company mainly sold to retail outlets and small independent retailers. As our reputation grew we secured large orders for major retailers such as Benson Beds, Julian Bowen, Harrison Brothers, Darwin Beds, Sweet Dreams and many more.

Later we moved into the contract market and began making bespoke beds and mattresses for hotels, nursing homes, and other residential properties.

Purrolux has been supplying quality beds and mattresses to businesses across the UK for over 40 years.

If you have ever visited a Premier Lodge or Radisson hotel you have probably slept on one of our beds.

Further to this we were supplying boat hire companies, such as Anglo-Welsh Narrow Boats, Triton Boat Builders, and Bridgewater Boat Builders. We have also supplied many well known Caravan manufacturers, Barons Caravans being one of the finest.

As the business grew we opened our first retail showroom in Bury, this proved to be an overwhelming success and over the years we have developed this into a modern display area with hundreds of beds on display for customers to try out and discover the quality of a handmade Purrolux bed for themselves.

Ultimately we are a traditional family run business who take pride in manufacturing quality beds and mattresses using traditional methods.

We can make beds and mattresses to your exact requirements, from a basic single to a luxurious, top quality pocket sprung bed. All our products are sold on a made to order basis so you know they will be fresh and new on arrival at your delivery address.

We employ a workforce of around 20 people, we own our own delivery vehicles and our delivery drivers will take your bed into the room of your choice. Unfortunately, we do not take your old bed away as we feel it would be unfair on the next customer to have an old bed resting against their new one on the van.

If you live locally or if you would like to try any of our range of beds then come and visit the showroom.

We are open 7 days a week.

Thank you from all of us at Albion Mill.

Bed firm still flying high after 40 years

Showroom Floating Keith (300).png
No wonder Bury businessman Keith Broome has an extra “spring” in his step.
For his mattress and bed manufacturing company Purrolux, which began life in the humble surroundings of a Prestwich garage, is now celebrating its 40th anniversary. The firm commands a 15,000 sq ft home at Bury’s Albion Mill in Albion Street, which not only serves as its manufacturing base but also embraces a showroom to display the range of beds and mattresses supplied to domestic and commercial clients.
Owner Mr Broome has worked through hard times and good times during the past four decades and prides himself on service as well as his devotion to his employees. He said: “I established the business in 1974, making mattresses in my home garage in Prestwich, then selling them on Bury Market. We’ve been manufacturing and selling them at the Albion Mill since 1977.”
He learned his trade as an apprentice at the Co-op on Broughton Lane, Salford. In the early days, Purrolux primarily sold to retail outlets and small independent retailers. But as its reputation grew, so too did its order books including retailers such as Bensons Bed Centre. Purrolux expanded its portfolio by supplying boat hire companies as well as manufacturers of caravans. The company also became especially well known in the Blackpool hotel trade.
Today, Purrolux is a family-run business with Mr Broome and his wife, Maureen, treating their staff like family.
Mr Broome said: “There have been some very hard times over the years, but we have always stuck together and worked hard to pull through. We wouldn’t have come this far without recommendations. We still work very hard on our service, that is what gets you remembered.”

Handcrafted Mattresses

On average we spend around a third of our lives in bed.

The mattress you choose for yourself is important. From the density of the springs to the comfort of the fillings we can create a mattress that is comfortable and supportive for you.

We advise coming into the showroom to try them out, you are free to lie on them for as long as necessary, we don't even mind if you fall asleep!
